Antique Royal Mail of Canada Mailbox at the Banff Springs Hotel in Alberta Canada. The Mailbox is polished daily and the mailbox is still used by guests to post their mail. The Canadian Pacific Railway opened the Banff Springs Hotel on June 1st 1888 in Banff National Park, Alberta Canada. The mailbox was made and installed by “The Canadian Culter Mail Chute Company Ltd”, in 1910 from Montreal Quebec and the mailbox was called the “Culter – Mailing System.”
This mailbox has two Yale Locks installed and still functioning. The first Cutler mail chute was installed in the Elwood Building in Rochester, New York in 1884. Cutler’s company was the sole manufacturer in the US of mail chutes and receiving boxes until 1904 and produced more than 1600 receiving boxes. They had over 30 patients.
Note: I still have old Yale locks and keys the same colour and style and will fit these antique mailboxes.
